Items discussed at the meeting

Item 1. Approval, where appropriate, of the minutes for the previous meeting

The minutes for the previous meeting are approved.

Item 2. Resolution of the proposed amendments to the Strategic Plan

The amendments and responses can be viewed here: PLA23-27 public display.

The drafted responses and proposed changes to the document are approved.

Item 3. Approval, where appropriate, of the proposed drafts of the UIB 2023-2027 Strategic Plan

There are four versions of the document incorporating the accepted amendments:

A summary of the goals, activities and indicators in .xls format is attached.

The four documents are approved with the following amendments:

- The paragraph on people in the 'Current Situation' section: the Catalan version changed 'innombrables' for 'nombrosos' (this change did not affect the English version)

- With regard to the new goal G04 on increasing the use of Catalan at the UIB, the research section was amended as follows:

  • Instead of 'We aim to increase the use of Catalan at the UIB through promotional activities in teaching, research, transfer, culture and management', the document now states 'We aim to increase the use of Catalan at the UIB through promotional activities in teaching, transfer, culture, management and specific research areas'
  • Accordingly, the Grounds section in activity G04.A1 was amended to: 'The language skills of UIB staff need to be strengthened in order to foster the use of Catalan in teaching, specific research areas, knowledge transfer, culture and management'
  • Activity G04.A3 was amended from 'Awards for final degree projects, and master’s and PhD theses written in Catalan' to 'Awards for final degree projects and master’s theses written in Catalan'. All references to PhD theses were removed.
  • Lastly, indicator G04.N2, was changed from 'Percentage of final degree projects, and master’s and PhD theses written in Catalan' to 'Percentage of final degree projects and master’s theses written in Catalan'. Accordingly, the formula was also amended.

Item 4. Round of questions

  • The Vice Chancellor requests that the minutes include his thanks for all those who have contributed to producing the Strategic Plan in Catalan, Spanish and English, as well as the infographic version.
